The orchestra represents the very first segment of the Summer Music Camp, founded in 1986 and since then it has involved more than 500 orchestra musicans, choirs and vocal soloists, conductors and assistant conductors, pedagogues. The orchestra traditionally performs at the Ohrid summer festival receiving glowing reviews. As of 1997, the Chamber Orchestra of JM Macedonia became an integral part of the Summer music camp, but also works throughout the year, nurturing chamber music repertoire.
Traditionally the Orchestra performs every year at the Ohrid Summer Festival, but also at many other national festivals and abroad.
The ensemble, first of its kind on the Balkans, became an important part of Macedonian music culture, performing at an extremely high level. More than 400 young musicians from 15 countries have participated in its sessions. Original works have been composed and dedicated to the orchestra, and these include the "Baroque Concertino" by D. Buzarovski, "Rossiniana" by V. Nikolovski, "Raspevi" by G. Kolarovski, "Calendar" by K. Dimushevski etc.
So far, the Orchestra has given more than 80 public performances and is the recipient of various national music awards. In 1995 the Orchestra performed during the General Assembly of the Jeunesses Musicales International in Budapest, in celebration of 50 years since the founding of Jeunesses Musicales International and the affiliation of JM Macedonia as full member of the Federation.
